Commercial Drivers License (CDL)
The CDL program will teach rules and regulations for a commercial driver's license endorsement and will provide the range hours and driving hours required to test for the State of Maine Motor Vehicle Class A Commercial Vehicle Road Test. Students will test for their CDL permit in December and test for their Class A license in May. The CDL program will also teach the basic preventative maintenance of trucks, including changing engine oil, greasing, tightening belts, and basic wiring.
A valid Maine driver’s license is required to take this program. Students will be required to sign our criminal background and complete drug testing upon entrance into the program. Accepted students are entered into the State of Maine’s random drug testing program and will be subject to randomized testing throughout the school year. Accepted students will be scheduled for drug testing which may occur anytime between the date of acceptance and the first day of school. A student will be removed from the program if they are found to be in violation of the Maine Department of Transportation rules and regulations, which include failed drug testing. Additionally, students will also have to complete the Maine Department of Transportation’s medical clearance form upon entrance. This will require a physician’s signature so applicants should make certain that they are up-to-date on their medical care and have no underlying conditions which the Maine DOT would consider exclusionary for a commercial driver’s license endorsement.
